Aaron Smalls is an Entertainment Energy Architect, Memory Architect, live event host, open-format DJ, keynote speaker, and creator of the Charismatic Advantage®: The Art of Social Energy. Born in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Based in New York City. Active in every room in between. Most recently, FIFA brought Aaron to the 2026 World Cup, where he DJed and emceed matches at Boston Stadium through the quarterfinal round.

The Origin

FROM ST. THOMAS TO 30 ROCK. HERE’S HOW IT HAPPENED.

Aaron was born in St. Thomas, one of the three U.S. Virgin Islands. His grandfather Ray was a founding member of the La Motta Brothers Orchestra, a band that shaped Calypso music and became a mainstream soundtrack of the islands. Music and the energy it creates was foundational before Aaron could put a name to it.

His other grandfather, Joe, owned Smalls Electric, an electrical contracting company in St. Thomas. Working with Joe and his contractors as a kid planted the seeds of an engineering mind. When Aaron moved to Tampa with his mom at age 6, he carried both of those things with him: a love of music and a love of how things work.

In Tampa he played the saxophone. He asked to take acting classes, but his mom didn’t know where to find them. He made up for it by throwing legendary birthday parties. When it was time for college, he headed to the University of Central Florida in Orlando and enrolled in mechanical engineering.

Aaron started at Nickelodeon Studios in 2005, shuffling giant cartoon-sized props, engineering the perfect slime, and learning what it meant to hold a room full of kids and make them feel like the most important people in the world. That lesson never left.

The signs were always there. A grandfather who made music. A grandfather who built things. A kid who was always performing. The only question was which direction to point it.

Aaron started at Nickelodeon Studios in 2005 at age 19 — shuffling giant cartoon-sized props, engineering the perfect slime, learning what it meant to hold a room full of kids and make them feel like the most important people in the world. That lesson never left.

While still hosting for Nickelodeon, a close friend and mentor introduced Aaron to a DJ company. This mentor was a world-class audience warm-up host known for his work with Steve Harvey and Kelly Clarkson, and the company brought Aaron on for his emcee skills and soon taught him how to DJ. Around the same time, another friend introduced him to an acting studio. The entertainment tripod was complete: host, DJ, actor.

Each skill fed the others. The hosting made him a better DJ because he understood how to read a room and adapt. The DJing made him a better host because he understood how music and energy move people before words do. The acting made him a better coach because he understood the craft underneath the instinct.

I don’t need a stage to make magic. But it helps.

The Shift That Changed Everything

IT AIN’T ABOUT YOU. THAT’S THE WHOLE PHILOSOPHY.

Aaron was warming up the audience for The Kelly Clarkson Show at 30 Rock. His job, the entire job, was to disappear into the audience’s experience. A more engaged audience meant a more upbeat Kelly. A more upbeat Kelly meant better television. Better television meant everyone won. But none of it worked if the warm-up host made the warm-up about himself.
